Started playing a new toon on the realm of Sin'jiun. Here is my Night Elf Resto (level 60) in full Valorous Dreamwalker Battlegear transmog (because it is my favorite set besides the original). The tabard is for my guild `Der Weiße Lotus`. Been spending a little to much time doing battlegrounds, but at least it is something I queue for and will eventually get some gear.

I got to test the VPN during my adventure over a mobile connection. Extremely pleased that I set it up, because it saves us about 15$ a month in VPN charges for the two of us. Given that we are not looking to bi-pass geo-restrictions or hide our traffic from the ISP this works perfectly for us.

So much for my vacation this weekend. We drove all the way to our destination to find that the locks on the family cabin were changed, and we don't have the proper key. We are heading back tonight for about a 9 to 10 hours round trip in the car.

At least with this trip we got to take our own car. The last big trip our car was in the shop.

This is Alan. Alan ended his own life on 7th June 1954. He laced an apple with cyanide and ate a bite from it. He did this because the British government chemically castrated, humiliated and prosecuted him for being gay.

Alan is the reason why a chunk is bitten out of the Apple logo…in honour of Alan Turing.

Ok so what did he do? He invented computer science and using his first designs he decrypted the Enigma code - the machine base encryption that the Nazis and the German military used to communicate secret commands to each other in world war 2 - and hence he both saved millions of lives and brought us into the modern age of computing.

Pride month isn’t just about dancing on floats in gold hot pants or flying a rainbow flag. It’s about remembering that everyone has a right to be happy, love who they want to love, and recognise the outstanding contribution that everyone can make in a society free of fear or prejudice.

It's been a while so I figured I would update the continued saga that is my NAS; I've still yet to add the fallback network connection but have managed to get a few more services running that make my hobby life easier. For instance, I've added a CI/CD tool that is now integrated into Gitea. And, I've also managed to test the VPN from outside of my house and it works like a charm. :D Woot!

At some point I need to get that fallback connection added and automate the setup of these services.

In the continued saga that is my NAS; I've managed to get the SSDs installed for caching and it has noticeably improved performance. I've also managed to get the DNS+PiHole, Gitea, and Plex running smoothly.

Thinking tomorrow I will get the fallback network interface hooked up and then watch some movies I've not seen in a while because the out dated Mac mini could not handle running Plex.

My husband is on his way to pick up our car after has fixed and upgraded us to the latest generation charge port. Thankfully they fixed this issue in a single day. Apparently others who ordered their cars around the same time as us are also having the same problem with charging. 😳

My husband got the new NAS up and running last night, and now both of our systems are transferring massive amounts of data over our network to repopulate it. My Time Machine backup took over 8 hours and finished sometime in the middle of the night.

We made the executive decision to keep the Kiwix archives on a plugged in USB external drive (incase we need to access it during an outage).

At some point we'll need to add SSDs for caching and a UPS for graceful shutdowns during a power outage.

Annoyed with manually unmounting all the drives every time I go to unplug my laptop from my Studio Display, I've created a Shortcut that unmount all the drives either after selecting a single option in a dropdown or telling Siri to prepare to undock.

If this keeps up I may be a former owner. AC chargers stopped functioning abruptly, but DC fast charging still works. At this point they’ve fixed/replaced the 12v charge controller, the entire starting assist system, and now I suspect they will need to replace this system in the car too. Ioniq 5 is looking rather attractive right about now.

This upgrade will bring us from 19TB to 21TB of network storage, with 4 additional TB of storage now available to each of our workstations as external drives (freed up once the migration is complete). My plan is to also make it able to be persistent storage for my Kubernetes cluster. What’s nice is that the device will enable us to create snapshots that we can then store off site, further protecting my husband and I from data loss.

We ordered a NAS for our home the other day and the drives just arrived! Excited to get the actual device tomorrow and set it up… no more needing to support/micromanage the Mac mini in order to provide network based TimeMachine backups! This transition will also enable us to have a cleaner network cabinet and adds some features that were removed from MacOS several releases ago. This upgrade has been in the works for about 3 years now, so excited!

Religion, Strange Encounter

What I do know is that if his story is true, I’m glad he’s doing better with his life, and that I’m doing just fine with my current set spiritual beliefs.

Religion, Strange Encounter

Not sure what possesses someone to run up to someone else, profess hearing voices compelling them to do things, and make assumptions that the other person currently does too much drugs, alcohol & sex, and then proceeds to tells them to find Jesus.

Religion, Strange Encounter

I was approached while walking around a mall by a stranger after he seen my shirt for a bar out of state. He started talking to me about Jesus, and him hearing voices about how he only had so long to live & how that voice pushed him from drugs, alcohol, and sex. I listened to his story because one of my beliefs is compassionate listening. I did’nt say anything as another one is loving speech and the abrupt attempt to convert me left me without anything good to say.

The other day I learned that a local gay chorus, that several of my friends are in, is going to be preforming in town for Pride and the event is co-sponsored by my work. Looking forward to cheering them on and having a gay ol’ time.  🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🥰 Happy pride month y'all!

Weight Loss, Food

When I first went vegan I was extremely confused as to why milk was hidden in nearly everything I use to eat. Now I’m wondering why some of the things have as much salt as they do. Some of the things are insane…. Like one and a half your normal recommended levels for a single relatively small burrito. I use to eat two or three in a single setting. This is without mentioning the extra sauce I would put on top. 😳

Weight Loss

To date I’ve lost almost 20 lbs due to a fundamental shift in my diet and life style. Going low sodium has me more fixated on nutrition labels then last two times I’ve lost over 100 lbs, and as a consequence I’m eating healthier food then either time. Also, as a bonus I feel healthier then both times too. I’m continuing to go on long walks, periodic indoor bike rides, and this weekend we (husband and I) are going to take our first swim of the season (excluding our trip to Florida). 🖖

Just had a wonderful time sitting, late at night, outside looking for the meteor shower with my husband. We ended up seeing about 5 or 6 really good ones and quite a few small ones. 🌠

Food

I just discovered minute oats cooked with minimal hot water and then fold in So Delicious strawberry yogurt and sliced banana. It was by far the best oatmeal I’ve ever had.
